Privacy Policy
Developer: ubi.jp
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy describes how SimpleQRShare (“the App”) handles information. By using the App, you agree to the terms described here.
The App shares files you pick directly from your device to a nearby device over the local network. Nothing is uploaded to the developer or to any other server on the internet.
2. Information We Collect
The App does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. There is no account, no sign-in, and no user identifier of any kind.
The App accesses the following on your device solely to provide its functionality:
| Information | Purpose | Transmitted externally? |
|---|---|---|
| Files and folders you select | Serve exactly those items to receivers you show the QR code to | No (local network only) |
| Network information (IP address, etc.) | Build the address shown in the QR code | No |
| Wi-Fi hotspot name and password (offline sharing only) | Show the “connect to Wi-Fi” QR code, so a receiver can join without typing a password | No (shown on this device’s screen only) |
| Access logs | Kept in memory for diagnostics while the App runs | No |
Access logs are held in memory only and are discarded when the App is closed. The App does not write shared file contents anywhere; files are read from where they already are and streamed to the receiver.
What the App stores on your device: your settings (default people/time limits, theme, screen-on preference) and the permission grants for the folders and files you picked. Nothing else.
3. Permissions Used
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
INTERNET |
Accept requests as a local server. No outbound internet connection is made |
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE |
Determine the current network and its address for the QR code |
FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE |
Keep a share running while the screen is off or you switch apps |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS |
Show the ongoing notification while a share is running |
CHANGE_WIFI_STATE |
Create the temporary Wi-Fi hotspot for offline sharing |
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION (API ≤ 32) |
Required by Android to create a Wi-Fi hotspot. Your location is never read, used, or stored |
NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES (API ≥ 33) |
Replaces the location permission above for creating a hotspot. Declared with neverForLocation, meaning the App does not derive location from it |
The App requests the hotspot permission only at the moment you choose “Create a Wi-Fi and share”. If you never use offline sharing, it is never requested.
Files are read through Android’s system file picker (Storage Access Framework), so the App receives access only to the specific items you choose — it has no broad storage permission and cannot browse your device.
4. Sharing of Information
The App does not share, sell, or disclose any user information to third parties.
The App contains none of the following:
- Advertising SDKs
- Analytics or crash-reporting SDKs (e.g., Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics)
- Social media integrations
- Any feature that sends data to external servers
The download page shown to receivers includes a link to the App’s Google Play listing (on Android devices). This is an ordinary link: nothing is sent anywhere unless the receiver taps it, and tapping it only opens the store page.
5. What Receivers Can Access
A share exists only while you are running it. When you stop it, or the time limit expires, or the App is closed, access ends immediately.
- Only what you picked. Receivers can download the files and folders you selected for that share, and nothing else on your device.
- Read-only. Receivers cannot upload, write, delete, or send anything back to your device.
- A random address. Each share is served at a randomly generated address (for example
http://192.168.1.24:53219/s/aB3xK9tQ/). Someone else on the same network who does not have the QR code or the link cannot reach your files by guessing, and the port is different every time. - Message. Any message you type is shown on the download page to whoever opens it.
A cookie on the receiver’s device: when a receiver opens the download page, the App sets a small random identifier as a cookie in their browser. It exists only to count how many people are downloading at the same time (so the “people” limit works), is scoped to that one share’s address, disappears when the share ends, and is never linked to any personal information.
Connections are not encrypted. Sharing uses plain HTTP so that receivers do not see a certificate warning. On the temporary hotspot created by “Create a Wi-Fi and share”, the Wi-Fi link itself is encrypted (WPA2). On an ordinary Wi-Fi network, other devices on that same network could in principle observe the traffic, so avoid sharing confidential files over public Wi-Fi.
6. Security
The App is designed for sharing files with someone in front of you, on a local network. Please note the following:
- Treat the QR code and the link as the key: anyone who can see or photograph the QR code, or who receives the link, can download the shared files while the share is running.
- Set a time limit and the number of people to suit the situation, and stop the share when you are done.
- Choose carefully what you select; the receiver can download everything inside a folder you share.
- Nothing is uploaded to the internet, and the developer has no access to your files at any point.
- The developer is not responsible for files disclosed as a result of how a user chooses to share them.
7. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
8. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated without prior notice. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. The update history is available on the Google Play app page.
